Game Board Perspective Drawing

I feel really good about my finished project, it looks how I wanted it to look from the start. This piece, I feel, was very successful. I like how there is a lot of colors and it has perspective, it is not just a flat drawing. The most difficult part of this project was definitely drawing it. Using the horizon line and the many different vanishing points made it difficult to make it all go together. If i could change one thing about it, I would change the shadows of the dice, they need to pop more. the watercolor layer was pretty simple, as long as the water color didn't get to dark. However, the color pencil layer was where you could add the different values and blend them all together. Using colored pencils definitely brought the whole piece together.

Anamorphosis Drawing

I chose to do a starbucks coffee cup as my object, once I had a picture of the coffee cup I opened it in photoshop to transform the picture. The way it was drawn made it look different if you were looking straight at it, but from certain perspectives it looks like its coming off the page. To make this project successful you need to have a shadow. The shadow made a huge difference. Also you need different values of colors following the shape of the object.

New York City Stencil

The first step to this project was too cut out pictures from magazines to create a collage. The pictures I used related to what my stencil was of. I used bright color spray paint as another layer because I wanted the black spray paint to stand out more with the stencil. We used xacto knives to cut out the stencil on a piece of poster board, cutting out all the positive space and leaving the negative. Finally, after the stencil was cut, I chose to use black spray paint for the actual stencil so it would stand out and be noticable.

Print Making

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
The overall composition of my print I think shows very well. There is an even balance between positive and negative space. The print is also clear and easy to make out what the animal is.
2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
I added contrast to my print by using equality of positive and negative space. I don't think i added enough texture the way I should have. There was no where i though that I could add texture.
3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
I used positive and negative space by using he black and red of the lady bug. I cut out all the spots and on the ladybug leaving just the body to be printed witht the ink.
4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)
The craftsmanship of my overall print I feel is pretty stong. There are no spots on the print where there should'nt have been ink and there was and the picture was very clear. The animal was also the dominant feature of the print so it is easy to tell what the print is of.
5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.
I do not think I showed depth using different backgrounds. The ladybug is so up close that i didnt know what could have been a foreground and background other than a leaf. which is hard to show the texture to.
6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?
I feel the obstacles were deciding what to cut out and what to leave. I feel like it would have been more successful if I had done it the other way around because the background would have been more noticable.

Print Sketch

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
Texture is important in sketches because it gives the animal character and defines certain features. Wihtout texture you wouldnt know if the animal had fur, scales, feathers, etc.
2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
It is neccessary because by just looking at one picture you may not be able to see every feature that you would like to see. By having multiple references you can see diffrent angles so taht you can do your own sketch how you want it. You can use different parts of different references.
3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
Yes I am able to tell by the amount of texture in each skecth. I would also look at each sketch and the differnt places that have the best contrast of positive and negative space, and texture.

Interactive Mural

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
Wokring as a team to come up with ideas for this mural was actually really easy. Everyone in the group contributed their own ideas and opinions so it was easy to make decision. I feel that with my group everyone was making sure that every idea was heard so that no one felt left out or inferior.
2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
Collaboration is very important when working as a team because there is more than one opinion between everyone. You may think you have a great idea but when another member in the group shares their idea you may agree theirs is better. In order to succeed all group memebers need to be willing to share all their ideas.
3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
I feel like this project was very successful. Everyone in my group participated equally and was always working hard to get what we needed done. In the end our final mural looked really good and I have heard many people compliment our particular mural in the hallways.
4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school?
I like the idea that the whole school can see our artwork, iteract with it, and have fun! It makes me feel good when I hear people say that they like the bookshelf mural.

Value Portraits

1. Explain the process you went through to develop your drawing.
I started making this portrait by tracing all the shapes with different values onto tracing paper. The next step was to turn the tracing paper over and color with pencil over all the lines. Then you put it on a clean page in the sketch book and retrace all the lines you see. After taking off the tracing paper you'll see a faded outline on the page in your sketch book. Last you start filling in the shapes with the different values that you see in the original picture and you blend them all together.
2. Explain how you found the different values in the portrait?
If you hold the original picture up to the light you can see all the different values. When shading in the values on the final portrait you look at the value scale and compare the values in the picture to determine which one to use.
3.  Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your portrait?  How?
Yes I believe I did use a full range of values. I kept comparing the orignal picture with my value scale to find all the different values. I used pretty much every value in my portrait except maybe the lightest one because everything had some value or shade to it.
4. Describe your craftsmanship.  Is the artwork executed and crafted neatly?
I would describe my craftsmanship pretty good. There is no smudging or smearing and everything is blended nicely. You can no longer see the lines of the shapes I drew to seperate the different values.
5. List any obstacles you had to overcome and how you dealt with them.
One of the biggest obstacles I had to overcome was adding the facial features like the nose and eyes. I kept erasing and redrawing but to fix it Mrs. Rossi showed me how to blend the values better to define the shape rather than drawing it.

Value Study

1. Describe your overall thoughts on the final piece.
This project was hard to start but once you started it was easy to just keep shading & blend the different values together.

3. How successful do you feel this piece is and why?
I feel pretty successful with this piece. I wasn't feeling good about it at first but after I started & got more practice blending the different values I felt a lot better about it.
4. What worked about this project? What didn’t work?
What worked I think was working with the oil pastels because it was a lot easier to blend the different colors together to give the shape more value. What I think didn't really work was drawing the shapes. All the shapes looked good excpet for my cube.

5. If you were to do this project over again, what changes would you consider making?
I would have practiced just drawing the cube more & shading it before I got into the final drawing.

6. What was the most difficult part about completing this piece and why?
The most difficult part was making the color thick enough. It was hard because I would get the blending to look good but then I would have to go back & shade over it all again to make the colors thicker.

7. What did you learn from this piece?
I learned how you can use different colors & different shades of colors to blend them into eachother to give the shape value & make it look three dimensional and not just flat.
